Our Pastor is Dr. Frederick Clarke. He began his ministry with us on October 1, 2018. An Ohio native, he was dedicated, baptized, and ordained at the Disciples of Christ congregation in North Canton, Ohio, Community Christian Church. He graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio with highest honors in Ancient Greek and Latin. Dr. Clarke received his Master of Divinity degree from the Divinity School of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, after three years of academic study on campus and an additional year long internship in the parish. Upon graduation, he was called to serve the Luray Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Luray, South Carolina. From there he went to serve for over 29 years at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Dr. Clarke completed his Doctor of Ministry degree with an emphasis in Disciples of Christ history and thought at the Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2001. Dr. Clarke has a daughter, Miriam, who is a doctor in residence to be a psychiatrist, in Greenville, NC, and a son, Andrew, who works for J & J Editorial in Cary, NC, preparing scholarly journal articles in a variety of fields for publication.
Diana Myers is the Associate Music Director and Harpist for our Sunday worship. Diana graduated from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music with a Bachelors of Music , Harp and Education. She has been a member of First Christian Church for 25 years and has served as our Associate Music Director since the 1990’s directing the youth orchestra, our annual children and youth Christmas play and the children’s choir at First Christian. Diana has been a music teacher for over 35 years and is currently themusic teacher at the O’Quinn Schools of Porter Gaud in Charleston.
Chelsea McCreight has taken care of our little ones during worship service since 2010 as our nursery attendant. Chelsea grew up at First Christian Church and participated in the nursery program herself at the age of three. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Elementary Education and is a Teaching Fellows recipient. Chelsea is now teaching 4th grade at North Charleston Elementary in addition to her Sunday morning responsibilities.
